The ‘Stories for Wings’ project was created with the aim of improving the education of adults in prison through the use of stories. This innovative approach seeks to promote fundamental values such as citizenship, democracy, inclusion, freedom and society. By working on these values, it aims to facilitate the social reintegration of inmates, helping them to overcome the cultural and social barriers they face and preparing them for an active and productive life outside prison.
The project responds to the need to find effective methods for educating adults in prison, a group that is often marginalized and has limited access to educational opportunities.
The story-based methodology was chosen because stories have a transformative power: they can motivate, teach and change attitudes and behaviors. This approach allows inmates to reflect on their own experiences and emotions, fostering empathy and understanding, and helping them develop key skills for social reintegration.
The main target groups are adult prison educators and trainers, who will be trained in innovative methodologies; prison inmates, who will benefit from an educational approach that enhances their social and emotional skills; and public administrations and associations, who will be able to implement these methodologies to improve their educational and reintegration programmes.
WP1: Project Management
The main objective of this work package is to ensure the proper management, quality control and monitoring of the project. To achieve this, various activities will be implemented, including the preparation of contracts for partners, cost control and time management to ensure that all activities are carried out according to the established schedule.
In addition, internal progress reports every three months, evaluations of meetings and activities, and surveys of beneficiaries and consortium members will be carried out to monitor and evaluate the progress of the project. Potential risks will also be identified, and contingency plans will be established to manage them.
Coordination, virtual and face-to-face meetings, and the use of digital platforms to enhance cooperation.
WP2: Selecting and Analyzing Values/Competences/Skills
This work package aims to identify and analyze key values and competences for working with adults in prison. For this purpose, an initial virtual meeting will be held to identify and select 8 relevant values, competences and skills.
Each partner will analyze two of these values using a common template and write a handbook including a theoretical and a practical part. In addition, local meetings with experts will be organized to test and revise the handbook before publication.
Finally, the handbook will be translated and published in the languages of the consortium, ensuring that it is available to all adult educators in prison.
WP3: Face to Face Meeting in Granada
The aim of this work package is to select stories and develop the methodology to work with them.
Each partner will initially select 7 stories, and in a face-to-face meeting in Granada the 16 best stories will be chosen. During this meeting, a template will be created to develop the methodology to work with the selected stories.
In addition, a multiplier event will be organized in Granada to present the project, its objectives and receive feedback from the attendees. This event will allow to disseminate the project and to establish relationships with others interested in adult education in prison.
WP4: Working Methodology
This work package focuses on the creation of educational tools for adult prison educators.
An E-Toolkit will be developed which will include working manuals for the 16 selected stories, with practical exercises and activities.
In addition, an LMS platform will be created containing all the educational resources developed, including videos, documentation and a chat for educators.
A set of 30 cards will also be designed to facilitate learning in a dynamic and practical way. These cards will contain questions and activities that will encourage discussion and reflection among the interns. The card sets will be distributed among prisons and prison associations and will also be available for download from the project website.
WP5: Final Multiplier Event
The aim of this work package is to disseminate the results of the project and to establish new relationships.
E-Toolkit, the LMS platform and the card game. During this event, there will be practical demonstrations of how to work with the stories and tools created.
In addition, social networks, media and other channels will be used to maximize the impact of the project. This final event will share the project's achievements with a wider audience and encourage the adoption of the methodologies developed in other educational contexts.
These work packages are designed to ensure an effective implementation of the project, promoting social inclusion and improving the competences of adult educators in prison.
